Former Tripoli Security Chief dies after assassination attempt

General Salah al-Din al- Samu’i, the Former Tripoli Security Chief, died Wednesday in Italy as a result of wounds inflicted by an assignation attempt, sources told 218 tv.

On Nov. 25, Samu’i was shot by gunmen in front of his home between the area of Salahaldin and Khalet al-Furjan, south of Tripoli.

Security services said the motive of the attack was the theft of Samu’i’s car. Four days after the assassination attempt, the forces arrested the prepetrators.

Samu’i was in a critical condition in an intensive care room, then he ws moved to Italy for the treatment.

Libya has suffered from continuous instability and inequitable distribution of economic resources due to the collapse of state institutions since the eruption of the 2011 uprising which ousted and killed longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The instability in Libya is backed by the spread of the armed groups and extremists including the Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda.
