BCD announces new airline in Benghazi

Libya’s Bank of Commerce and Development (BCD) announced on Sunday the establishment of a new airline, Berniq Air, in which the bank will contribute 40 percent of its total capital of LYD 200 million.

The BCD explained that opening a passenger lounge for the company’s customers at Benina International Airport was a first stage for the bank’s new airline.

Berniq Air will provide e-booking services to passengers through its official website and mobile application.

Chairperson of the BCD, Gamal Abdel Malik, told 218tv that the bank is also planning to establish a new airport in Benghazi to compete with the existing Benina International Airport, located about 19 kilometers east of Benghazi.

The BCD announced earlier that it will launch Rahal, a mobile application connecting a driver to a rider like Uber and Careem, in Libya by the end of 2018 to support Libya’s public transportation.
