Libya’s ambassador presents credentials in Greece

Libya’s new ambassador to Greece, Mohamed Younis Al-Manfi, presented his credentials to the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, on Tuesday during a solemn ceremony held at the Presidential Mansion in Athens.

Afterwards, al-Manfi met with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and acting Foreign Minister George Katrougalos for a discussion over boosting cooperation between the two countries.

Migrant crossings to Europe, especially Greece and Italy, using the Mediterranean Sea have been a major concern for the EU countries.

Chaos and lawlessness since a popular uprising turned into civil war in 2011 have turned Libya into a major transit point for migrants from the Middle East and Africa seeking to reach Europe.
