ICRC repatriates 12 Egyptian children rescued from clashes

The Libyan authorities repatriated on Saturday 12 Egyptian children whose families were killed in earlier clashes between the army and Islamic State (IS) militants in the city of Sirte, northern Libya.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced it facilitated the repatriation of the unaccompanied children to Cairo in coordination with the authorities in Libya and Egypt, and through the support of the Libyan and Egyptian Red Crescent as well as the Malta Red Cross.

These children were among several ones found following the fighting in Sirte, east of Misurata, about two years ago. The Libyan authorities offered the children rehabilitation programs since they were found. They have since been cared for by the Libyan Red Crescent in a facility in Misurata, the ICRC said.
