Libyan Air Force launches aerial surveillance in Kufra

Libya Air Force launched on Saturday an aerial surveillance campaign on the southern areas of the country in anticipation of any suspicious movements in the region.

The spokesperson for the military in Kufra, Miftah Bouzid, confirmed that the Commander of the Kufra military base, Brigadier Belkasem Al-Abaj, instructed his forces to deal with terrorist groups attempting to infiltrate into the country across the southern border.

Bouzid said in a statement to the Libyan News Agency that surveillance flights were launched in Kufra district to detect any attempts of trafficking weapons in the region.

Al-Abaj revealed in mid-December his intention to oversee the implementation of a security plan to secure the area of Kufra.

The vast southern borders of Libya have been exploited by terrorists and traffickers since the 2011 turmoil to smuggle weapons, humans, mercenaries, goods and antiquities, posing great threats to the rest of the country.
