Corpses pile up at Bani Walid General Hospital northwestern Libya

Cadavers of dozen illegal immigrants have accumulated in Bani Walid General Hospital, northwestern Libya, that the hospital became helpless.

Director of Bani Walid Hospital, Mohamed al-Mabrouk, said they are concluding the legal measures to bury nine bodies of illegal immigrants on Tuesday.

He told 218 that three of the bodies were already decomposed, calling on the state authorities to find a solution to this problem by finding another place to receive the bodies or allocate a plot of land to bury them.

Mabrouk pointed out the hospital of Bani Walid has been receiving bodies for a while, saves them, and prepares the place for burial, noting they carry out this tast due to the absence of competent authorities responsible to do so.

Seven years of armed conflict in Libya have left its people with coping mechanisms that are rapidly eroding. Daily life has become difficult and hundreds of thousands of people either remain displaced or are trying to return home.

The unrest, which began in 2011, has left many families completely dependent on humanitarian assistance.
