The draft state budget for 2018 has not been referred to the finance committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) for discussion although it was submitted by the interim government several days ago, MP Khalifa al-Daghari told 218 Tuesday.
HoR speaker Aguila Saleh has not sent the draft budget to the committee to study it in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and the Audit Bureau, Daghari explained.
He said the committee is concerned about the HoR speaker’s “behavior” in some cases because he has made decisions related to financial affairs without consulting the committee, describing the matter as a “violation to the law.”
Daghari added they learned about the submission of the draft budget to the HoR from sources in the cabinet, but he did not disclose its value.
The HoR has suffered from frequent absence or boycotting of some HoR members in its sessions for several reasons, including Saleh’s official foreign trips, and repeated clashes in the capital of Tripoli, all of which affected its performance throughout the last year.
