FDCC seizes expired goods, foods containing carcinogens western Libya

The Food and Drug Control Center (FDCC) in cooperation with the Municipal Council in Dirj district in Nalut town, which lies approximately halfway between Tripoli and Ghadames, launched an inspection campaign Sunday on groceries, coffee shops, pharmacies, educational institutions, and health centers in Dirj.

The campaign monitored many abuses and violations, such as operation without license or health certificates. The FDCC also seized many expired goods and some food products containing carcinogens.

The campaign also focused on raising awareness of students about the best methods to ensure the validity of goods and the legal procedures to be followed in the case of discovering expired goods or irregularities in shops.

Last year, the FDCC has closed its office at Al-Khoms Port over of what it described as “poor security procedures at the port.” In a statement, the FDCC has disclaimed responsibility for the food and pharmaceutical shipments imported through the port until security is imposed there.
