Libyan-Italian talks on Tripoli future plans, projects

Government of The National Accord (GNA)’s minster of Local Government held meeting on Sunday with several Italian officials discussing several mutual projects between the two countries during the coming period.

According to statement posted on the Ministry’s Facebook page, this meeting was suppose to tackle the future plans and joint project between Italy and Libya during the next phase of the country’s future, after winding down several years of conflict and civil war lasted since 2011.

Several Libyan and Italian officials attended the meeting.

Libya is a high priority for Italy in terms of border security and economic relations. The two Mediterranean countries have historic strong ties in different fields.

Last November, Palermo hosted an international conference to discuss security and stability in Libya, inviting the key political sides in the North African state. Rome tries to play mediator among Libyan rival groups aiming to find a solution to the conflict and division plagued the country since 2011 following the ouster of long-time dictator Muammar Qaddafi.
