Libya is working on political agreement: Interior Minister

Libya is working toward a political agreement among all factions, the sole path to end the Libyan conflict and problems, Interior Minister Fathi Bashaga said Tuesday.

Bashaga of the Government of the National Accord (GNA) made his statement during a meeting with Libyan Minister of Transport Milad Matouq, Minister of Finance Faraj Bumatari, Director of the Investigation Bureau of the Attorney-General’s Office Siddiq Al Sour and Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) Thomas Waldhauser.

Bashaga welcomed the formation of a government of national unity as per political consensus to achieve security and peace, calling on Libyans to unite to end the current political impasse.

Meanwhile, Africom Commander Waldhauser stressed the US commitment to help Libya in reaching a political solution and fighting terrorism.

On the same day, Waldhauser met with head of the GNA, Faiez Sarraj, who said he “exerted efforts” to achieve national reconciliation through unifying military and sovereign institutions.

During his meeting with Sarraj, Waldhauser praised the efforts of the GNA to achieve security and stability and fight terrorism, pointing out the AFRICOM forces are chasing ISIS in coordination with the GNA.
