Security situation in Marzuq improving: LNA

The security situation in Marzuq is improving after the Libyan National Army (LNA) expelled armed groups including Chadian gangs, spokesperson for the Special Forces of the LNA Melod Zoe said Thursday.

Zoe added that security forces spread across the city to establish security after the LNA entered the city on 20 February as part of its military operation in the southern region.

The statement comes a week after Chadian gangs murdered two children from one family in revenge for LNA’s military operation in Marzuq town.

Marzuq’s residents supported the LNA’s campaign to cleanse the south from terrorists and armed groups, journalist Wael Ahmed told 218news on Saturday, hence the murders.

The two children were killed in a neighborhood in Marzuq, when Chadian gangs returned to the city upon the withdrawal of the LNA after initially ridding the town from such gangs, according to Ahmed.

The murder of the two children was widely condemned, and the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya denounced Saturday the incident, calling on the Public Prosecution and the LNA to launch an investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
