One killed, 2 kidnapped in Ghadwa by armed group

Armed groups attacked Ghadwa, a town located 60 kilometers to southern Sabha, killing one person and kidnapping two on Monday.

The attack is similar to another two weeks ago in the same town, where two people were kidnapped and a third was injured while the perpetrators were trying to escape. They used the same vehicles and method of attack and raids on houses as the Monday incident.

The two attacks, in which military vehicles and costumes were used, indicate that Ghadwa and its surrounding areas, including Marzuq town, are under a threat after the Libyan National Army (LNA) handed them over to local police.

In early February, the LNA announced controlling Ghadwa as part of its operations to liberate Libya’s south, which was launched on Jan. 14.

Chadian gangs targeted Marzuq upon the withdrawal of the LNA after initially ridding the town from such gangs, murdering two children in an apparent revenge for their defeat.
