UN delegation arrives in Ghadames to prepare for National Forum

A UN delegation arrived Tuesday in Ghadames, northwestern Libya, to prepare for the Libyan National Forum, informed sources told 218TV.

Meanwhile, head of the UN Mission Support in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salamé warned about of the circulation of “fake lists of attendees.”

In the past few days, the National Forum, set to be held 14-16 April, has raised debate. It aims to bring together Libyan factions to finalize the draft constitution, form a national unified government to supervise the referendum and elections, and reshuffle the Presidency Council.

But some analysts believe the outcomes of the gathering will not be binding after the UN changed its name from the National Conference to the National Forum.

Libyan international law professor al-Mohamed Zubaidi told Sputnik news on Sunday that
all participants should be committed to the decisions and recommendations concluded during a conference, while the forum is a mere meeting between a group of people.

From the slight name change, he expects the National Forum to be a failure.
