African Volleyball Club Championship’s draw leads to strong clashes

The 38th edition of Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship’s draw was held on Sunday at Egypt’s Al-Ahly Club, resulting in strong clashes in the group stage.

The 2019 Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship kicked off Monday in Cairo. A total of 23 teams are competing this year.

The competition includes four teams from Libya: Al-Swehly, Ahli Tripoli, Al-Ittihad Al-Misrati, and Asaria.

Ahli Tripoli was seeded in Group A with Cairo giant Al-Ahly along with AS Injs from the IIvory Coast and Mugher from Ethiopia.

Group B included Smouha (Egypt), Gisagare (Rwanda), Uganda Christian University (Uganda), Gendemarie (Madagascar), and El Etihad (Libya).

Group C: Al-Swehly (Libya), Rukinzo (Burundi), Wolaita (Ethiopia), Prisons (Kenya), VC Espoir (DR Congo), and FAP (Cameron).

Group D: GSU (Kenya), University (Zimbabwe), AS Fag (Guinea), Mwangaza (DR Congo), Nemo Stars (Uganda), and Asaria (Libya).

Ahli Tripoli won a bronze medal twice in the 2009 and 2013 editions, while Al-Swehly finished fourth in the last three competitions as well as in 2008.
