Ethiopia to host reconciliation conference in July: African Union

Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa will host a reconciliation meeting between Libyan factions next July, Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki announced Sunday.

Faki made his statement during a quadruple meeting including representatives of United Nations, the Arab League, the African Union and the European Union on the sideline on the 30th Arab Summit held in Tunisia.

He said the anticipated meeting constitutes a reconciliatory attempt so all Libyan parties could reach a solution for the country’s crises.

Meanwhile, preparations for the Libyan National Forum to be held in Ghadames city on April 14 are underway.

Several initiatives to bring Libyan factions together did not culminate in anything tangible, most notably the Paris and Palermo conferences in 2018.

It is widely hoped by the international community that the National Forum will bring about different results.
