The Libyan National Army (LNA) shot down an L39 warplane taking off from Misurata Air Academy to attack the army in Tripoli Wednesday, according to the LNA spokesperson Ahmed al-Mismari.
In a Wednesday press conference, Mismari said 28 members of the army were killed and 92 others were injured since April 4, when the LNA launched a military operation in Tripoli to “expel terrorists.”
Three airstrikes from Misurata Airport attacked Gharyan City Wednesday, leaving no casualties, the spokesperson added.
The LNA is waging a war against terrorist organizations, including al-Qaeda, the Islamic State (IS), and Nusrat al-Islam, who have all gathered in Tripoli to fight the army, Mismari emphasized.
He claimed that U.N.-backed Prime Minister Faiez al-Sarraj’s relies on militias from Misurata during the war, and that he has paid more than LYD2 billion to armed groups to counter the army in the western region.
