Sabha mayor urges locals to arm themselves after prison break

Mayor of Sabha called on Sabha’s residents Saturday to be prepared for any possible attacks on the city and to take up arms to defend the homes.

Alleged ISIS members smuggled earlier on Saturday more than 150 prisoners from Sabha military prison as part of their armed attack armed attack on the battalion 160 of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

Mayor Hamid Al-Khayali urged the LNA to exert their efforts in maintaining security in Sabha, southwestern Libya, and to pursue the attackers and the criminals at large.

Ten people were brutally killed as a result of the attack battalion 160, which was deployed on the road between Sabha and Tamanhint cities, known as Tripoli Road.

Security sources in Sabha told 218News that those killed were either beheaded or shot in the head. The armed group also attacked and destroyed a number of military vehicles and equipment inside the battalion’s base.

Government of National Accord (GNA)’s interior minster and the Presidency Council (PC) headed by Faiez al-Sarraj condemned the attack in two separate statements.
