Gunmen attack Sabha Medical Center for alleged theft, one killed

Sabha Medical Center was attacked Tuesday by three unidentified armed men, according to a source who works at the center and spoke to 218News on condition of anonymity.

The source added that the gunmen tried to storm the center, forcing the center’s management to demand security forces to deal with them. The clashes led to the killing of one of the attackers, while the other two managed to escape.

The source speculated that the attackers came to the center to ransack it, ruling out that they are affiliated with any a terrorist groups or militia.

The investigation; however, is still ongoing.

On Saturday, Sabha witnessed one of the most brutal attacks since the begging of fighting in Tripoli; ten people were killed as a result of an armed attack by alleged IS members against battalion 160 of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The battalion was deployed on the road between Sabha and Tamanhint cities, known as Tripoli Road.

Security sources in Sabha told 218News that those killed were either beheaded or shot in the head. The armed group also attacked and destroyed a number of military vehicles and equipments inside the battalion’s base.

The armed group also smuggled dozens of prisoners detained for various crimes from Sabha military prison, while security sources revealed that the gunmen told the detainees inside the prison that they were IS members, urging them to follow the terrorist group.

Tripoli has been witnessing battles and violent events since the beginning of April as a result of Commander Khalifa Haftar‘s military offensive on the Capital to “liberate it from terrorism.”
