Ashmawy had direct contact with Islamic Fighting Group’s leader: LNA

Egyptian terrorist Hisham al-Ashmawy had been in constant contact with the leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, Abdul Hakim Belha, who is linked to al-Qaeda and met with him several times, the media office of the Libyan National Army (LNA) said Thursday.

The media office told Al Arabiya that investigations revealed that Ashmawy also met with Muslim Brotherhood leader Ali Salab.

The LNA added that Ashmawy had strong ties with prominent terrorist leaders in Syria and Iraq, who assigned him to train terrorists to launch attacks in Libya and Egypt.

On Wednesday, Ahmed al-Mismari, LNA spokesperson, said the Egyptian former commando was specialized in training terrorists on “street fighting.”

Ashmawy was extradited to the Egyptian authorities Tuesday in the presence of the Egyptian intelligence chief after carrying out investigations with the high-profile defendant to meet all legal requirement.
