LNA withdraws from main base in Gharyan

The Libyan National Army (LNA) withdrew Wednesday from Gharyan city, south of Tripoli, following the outbreak of the clashes between the LNA and the forces allied to the Government of National Accord (GNA), according to the media office of the 73rd Infantry.

The media office said armed groups affiliated to the GNA carried out a surprise attack backed by airstrikes on the city, grabbing control over it.

GNA field commander Abdul Hakim Tanish conformed the whole city has been recaptured from the eastern forces, and the U.N.-recognized GNA took control on the LNA’s operation room.

After the LNA took over Gharyan as part of its military campaign, which was carried out in the western region on April 4, and reached Tripoli’s southern suburbs, the city became “the main forward base for the LNA where troops, weapons and ammunition arrived from the east,” and home to the field hospitals, according to Reuters.
