LNA calls on Security Council to investigate detention centre’s attack

The Libyan National Army (LNA) calls on the U.N. Security Council to open an investigation into the airstrike that hit a detention centre in Tajoura, Tripolli, LNA spokesperson Ahmed al-Mismari said Wednesday.

In a statement from Benghazi, Mismari added that the LNA targets only sites of armed groups and terrorists.

This came in response to the accusation made by Italian Minister of Interior Matteo Salvini and the Government of National Accord (GNA) against head of the LNA Khalifa Haftar of bombing the detention centre, which houses more than 610 people.

The bombing killed more than 40 and injured 80, including children and women.

Salvini called on France and the international community to stop supporting “a person who bombs civilian facilities” to preserve his economic and commercial interests in Libya.

Meanwhile, U.N. Secretary General António Guterres called for an investigation into the “outrageous” bombing, condemning “this horrendous incident in the strongest terms.”
