LNA begins battle with GNA to recapture Gharyan

The Libyan National Army (LNA) began on Sunday a battle with the Government of the National Accord (GNA) to restore Gharyan city, the LNA’s main base, according to LNA Commander Abdel Moneim Dardera.

This statement came after al-Karama Room Operation launched Sunday airstrikes on Gharyan and an ammunition store in the city.

The war in Tripoli is about to “come to an end” as the LNA has mobilised its forces to liberate the capital, director of the LNA Karama Operation Room Khaled al-Mahjoub said Monday.

Previously, sources in the eastern LNA said the army prepares for a “decisive battle” in the western region after mobilizing more than 20,000 members and allowing for the participation of fighter aircrafts in the battle for the first time.

The sources added that part of the battle will be dedicated to retake the LNA’s main base in Gharyan city from the armed groups of the Government of National Accord.

In late June, the GNA carried out a sudden attack on Gharyan city, forcing the LNA to withdraw the city, south of Tripoli, following the outbreak of the clashes between the LNA and the forces allied to the GNA.

In response, al-Watiya air force base of the LNA launched airstrikes on weapon stores, which “severely weakened” the armed groups in the city.
