LNA denies Fezzan Anger Movement access to southern oilfields

The Libyan National Army prevented a group from so-called Fezzan Anger Movement from storming el-Sharara and el-Feel oil fields in the southern region.

Fezzan Anger Movement had announced earlier that they will close the two oil fields on Saturday, protesting the lack of cash and fuel supply as well as the deteriorating living conditions in the south.

Sharara lies in Libya’s remote southwestern desert where state authority is weak and chaos is rampant, making it difficult to provide suitable public services.

The coordinator of the movement Bashir Sheikh told 218News that Fezzan Anger Movement will close the fields to protest the poor living conditions in the south.

Southern Fezzan region suffered decades of neglect and demanded that the revenue of the oil produced from local fields be used to fund development projects in the region.

On December 9, Libya shut down its biggest oilfield after tribesmen seized the Sharara facility, but reopened it after the eastern army took control of it.
