New municipal elections expected in 3 Libyan cities

Another three cities in Libya are expected to witness municipal elections during the coming days, including Taraghin, Qatrun and Sharqia.

A Training workshop for basic trainers on the process of voting, counting and counting was conducted by Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections preparing for the awaited elections.

The committee wrote on its page on its Facebook page on Monday, that these workshops aimed to prepare for the second phase of its electoral program regarding voting  for the municipalities at Tragan, Qatrun and Sharqia in August.

The Committee also announced the extension of the reception of the papers of the candidates for the elections of the 3 cities  until Thursday, July 18.

All candidates wishing to run for municipal councils must submit their candidacy papers at the headquarters of the relevant subcommittees from 9 am to 4 pm.

Last month, France, Italy, and Germany announced their support for municipal elections in Libya, which is preparing for the parliamentary and presidential elections.

The announcement was made during a meeting between German ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza, French ambassador to Malta Béatrice le Fraper du Hellen, and British deputy ambassador to Libya Fleur Willson, and Chairman of the Central Committee of Municipal Council Elections Salem bin Tahia.

Despite the ongoing clashes in Tripoli since April 4, municipal elections resumed on April 20 in several provinces in cooperation between the Central Committee for Municipal Elections (CCMCE) and international and local partners.
