Mitiga Airport resumes flights after airstrike

The Libyan capital’s only functioning airport, Mitiga, resumed air flights on Thursday after it was halted for several hours due to an air strike that targeted the airport.

An airplane coming from Egypt’s Alexandria Airport to Mitiga was redirected earlier Thursday to Misrata International Airport, which serves Libya’s Mediterranean coastal city of Misrata, after Mitiga’s air space was closed.

The Libyan National Army has accused the forces aligned with the UN-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) of using Mitiga Airport to launch military piloted/unpiloted aircraft that target LNA forces.

The LNA launched a military campaign on Tripoli on April 4 to gain control of the capital from the GNA.
