Tobruk military base reopens after innovation

Tobruk military base was reopened on Friday after innovation and reconstruction works.

The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officers from the Libyan National Army (LNA) and a number of tribal elders.

Tobruk is the base of the interim government that controls the eastern region of Libya, supported by the LNA.

Libya has been torn by violence and division since long-time ruler Muammar Qaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011.

No authority has full control over Libya and the country is unstable, torn between several political and military factions, the two most important of which are the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA), led by Prime Minister Faiez Al-Sarraj, and LNA, based in the eastern cities of Benghazi and Tobruk.
