IS remains great threat to Libya: US political expert

The Islamic State group remains a great threat to the subcoastal region, southern Libya, from south of the oil fields in the east to the borders with Algeria in the west, Voice of America’s National Security Correspondent Jeff Seldin tweeted on Wednesday.

Seldin said IS still has financial resources in Libya through investing in small and medium-sized enterprises and transferring money in coastal cities.

“Intelligence from the UN member states saw the movement of fighters in small numbers from the Syria and Iraq to Libya and Algeria…through Sudan,” he said.

Amid the escalation in Libya’s western region, the international community has warned for several times about terrorists’ exploitation of the lack of security in Libya to re-establish their organizations.

Several countries in the U.N. called for resuming the political negotiations in Libya, reaching a truce and holding presidential and parliamentary elections.
