Murzuq in southern Libya cries out for help against ongoing carnage

The mayor of Sabha, Hamid Al-Khayali, has accused the Government of National Accord (GNA) of financing and supporting terrorist groups including Chadian nationals who have been attacking the city for about two weeks leading to the displacement of hundreds of residents.

Al-Khayali denounced, speaking to Russian news agency Sputnik, the recognition of the GNA of those groups, describing them as ‘legitimate forces,’ and called on the international community to take a stance regarding what is happening in Murzuq and to reveal who is behind the crimes committed in there.

He also said that the commander of the attacking forces Hassan Mousa had been burning houses, killing and slaughtering men in Murzuq and all over the southern region.

“Murzuq is facing a tremendous threat as it is being besieged by Chadian armed groups who are after wreaking havoc and creating chaos in the region.” The mayor explained.

He indicated that currently in Murzuq, there is no fuel and water, besides the damage done to the infrastructure and the deterioration of services as the terrorist groups continue to encircle the town.
