Al-Sarraj and his Islamist allies are growing apart

The unannounced conflict between Fayez Al-Sarraj – Head of Presidential Council – and his allies from Islamist groups is getting some complications after the top allies have joined the skepticism and disloyalty campaign that has started by Islamist politicians to deplore the way Al-Sarraj and his advisors are managing the Tripoli battle.

The Head of High Council of State Khalid Al-Mishri said in a presser in Tripoli that he had started talks with the House of Representatives in Tripoli to take practical steps to reshuffle the Presidential Council into a Head and two deputies as well as an independent Prime Minister to form a miniature government that would facilitate elections and activate administrative control apparatuses.

He said there is a mismanagement of the military battle on the side of Government of National Accord as there is no defense minister or deputy and no chief of general intelligence department.

Al-Mishri’s statement raised many questions doubting its seriousness. Some said it is part of the pressure exerted by Islamist politicians on Al-Sirraj to force him to keep the war ongoing despite international calls for a ceasefire and return to political process. Others believe that Al-Mishri’s statement was serious especially after leaks had lately revealed that he wanted to end war and return to dialogue.

It’s a ferocious war that was started by the Islamist politicians to regain control over Tripoli as the High Council of State’s member Abdelrahman Al-Shater had described Al-Sarraj as someone who doesn’t have the courage to name the countries supporting Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in his offensive on Tripoli, adding that Al-Sarraj is leading Libya to a disaster as he knows nothing but condemnation statements.
