Macron: Paris and Rome see eye to eye on Libya

The French President Emmanuel Macron said the ministerial meeting on Libya that will be held on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations next week in New York is going to be very essential.

Macron added in his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in Rome that the upcoming meeting will be materialization of Italy and France’s visions for achieving stability in Libya.

“Libya’s crisis is an issue of understanding between Rome and Paris.” Macron said in a joint press conference with Conte on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian described the meeting of foreign ministers on Libya as an emergency and urgent step for the good of the country.

On Wednesday, Le Drian briefed the French Defense Committee about the crisis in Libya and the ongoing efforts to resolve it.

France has been lately concentrating on Libya, especially after the announcement of an upcoming international conference on Libya in Berlin slated for next November as per a call by the G7 Summit held lately in France.

The call for a conference in Berlin was followed by French and Italian efforts that brought back the two countries’ rivalry in Libya amid Germany’s efforts to get unified stances from stakeholders to end the conflict in Libya, especially after war had broken out in the capital, Tripoli.
