Calls for documenting human rights violations in Libya

The Joint Committee for Documenting Human Rights Violations discussed the human rights and international humanitarian law abuses in Libya.

This came in its eighth meeting at the Tripoli-based Justice Ministry, where it reviewed human rights violations against Libyans in different cities and the mechanism to send the cases to the concerned authorities.

The Chairman of the Committee, Khalid Al-Hasnawi stressed the need to document evidence for the violations to guarantee the rights of the damaged are returned.

The Libyan National Human Rights Commission has earlier expressed concern over the fate of the prisoners of war and the missing from both sides of the fighting.

It said it was following reports of extrajudicial and summary executions as well as torture of some prisoners of war in violation of Geneva Convention.
