Perilous indications of possible ISIS comeback to Libya

43 ISIS terrorists were killed in a week by airstrikes of US Africa Command on southern Libya, which showed that the militant group had reemerged after the Government of National Accord (GNA)refuted that ISIS was in Libya during the military operations of Libyan National Army (LNA) in Murzuq, accusing it of leading a tribal and ethnic war in the south.

Since September 19, the US has intensified operations in Libya striking ISIS militants four times; the largest action since Donald Trump took office in 2017. This number is much bigher than the previous operations, which saw US Africa Command hit ISIS only three times in a whole year.

Military experts say the latest US airstrikes against ISIS in southern Libya point out the capabilities and dangers of the terrorists in the region as they are using the south as a hideout taking advantage of the ongoing fighting between LNA and the armed groups of GNA on the outskirts of Tripoli.

The hazards ISIS pose to Libya and the region are reflected in the intensity of the airstrikes of US Africa Command, and they hint at possible regrouping of the militants who could carry out attacks across Libya with the question of whether or not they can be terminated entirely remaining unanswered.
