GNA Health Ministry condemns forced disappearance of medical volunteers

The Health Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) has condemned the forced disappearance of six volunteering doctors who were headed to Ghadames city from Tripoli.

The convoy of medics was intercepted by an armed group near Zintan city.

The GNA Health Ministry said it had contacted the elders and municipal councils of Zintan via the emergency and crisis committee, expressing rejection to and concern over these “acts that are rendered criminal by local and international laws”.

The ministry also ueged in a statement Zintan elders to exert efforts to ensure the doctors are released, calling on concerned authorities, including Interior Ministry, to probe the incident and double efforts to free the kidnapped and punish the kidnappers.

The detention of the volunteering doctors sparked outrage of Libyans and legal organizations, which called on Libyan authorities to do something to end forced disappearance crimes.
