Leishmaniasis cases on the rise in Libya as signs point to possible unmanageable outbreak

The Head of Tawergha Hospital Dr. Mohammed Idriss told 218News that the number of people who are affected by Leishmaniasis in the town are more 1000, adding that the treatment has been secured and it is on it’s way to Tawergha, expecting it to arrive Tuesday .

Leishmaniasis outbreaks are still scary for all Libyans in different areas, especially in Tawergha, where people are living in dire conditions that led to the outbreak of this disease amid the return of many residents recently to the town.

Meanwhile, rainfall and low temperatures are expected to undermine the outbreak of Leishmaniasis in Tawergha.

Tawergha’s plague and other cities’ deteriorating conditions shed light on the weakness of the government institutions as they are unable to provide small communities with the needed medications againt Leishmaniasis and take measures to terminate the virus from the country.
