Amnesty International urges Haftar to ensure release of Sergiwa

Amnesty International has launched an international campaign on its website to urge the General Commander of the Libyan National Army Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to ensure the release of member of the House of Representatives (HoR) Siham Sergiwa or reveal her whereabouts and protect her from any form of torture.

The campaign comes after over three months of the kidnapping of Sergiwa from Benghazi on July 17, when her husband was shot in the leg and her 16t-year-old son was beaten.

UNSMIL has held the concerned authorities in eastern Libya accountable legally for her fate and her whereabouts, while the EU delegation in Libya as well as seven embassies in Libya issued statements calling for Sergiwa’s release and for investigations into the issue.

Amnesty International wasn’t the first international organization to shed light on the disappearance of Siham Sergiwa as Human Rights Watch called as well for releasing her, vowing to hold top officials in Libya to account at the international courts if they didn’t help secure her release.
