Italy to take steps toward amending Illegal Immigration MoU with Libya

Italy called for a meeting for the joint committee of Libya and Italy to amend the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed by Rome with the Government of National Accord in 2017 to combat illegal immigration.

Italian News Agency, ANSA, reported government sources as saying that Rome wanted to keep the MoU in place with calls on Libya to negotiate some amendments.

Meanwhile, the advisor to the Head of Presidential Council told ANSA on the phone that the Government of National Accord will mull the proposed amendments of Italian government regarding the MoU.

The Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said last Thursday that his government wanted to make some amendments to the MoU, which he said can’t be “thrown in the sea.”
