“Very important” preparatory meeting to be held ahead of Berlin conference on Libya

The fourth preparatory meeting for upcoming international conference on Libya in Berlin is to be held on Wednesday, according to the UN envoy Ghassan Salame’s briefing at the Security Council on last Monday.

Diplomatic sources said the meeting that was described by Salame as “highly important” will include representatives from Security Council permanent member states to pick up from where the three previous meetings finished.

The meeting will discuss unification of the stance on Libya and the operations of the Libyan National Army in Tripoli, reliable sources told Al-Ettihad newspaper.

Salame said the last meeting of October 21 included a final statement of six baskets of actions to be done to end the conflict in Libya.

Thses baskets include returning to the political process led by Libya along with economic reforms, ceasefire, implementation of arms embargo, security reform and respecting human rights and international humanitarian law.
