Guterres: Libya’s ceasefire remains breached as good news is coming from Geneva

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed dismay on Tuesday as he criticized the parties that attended Berlin conference and vowed not to intervene in or send weapons to Libya but didn’t commit to their promises.

In a press conference in New York, Guterres said the parties that attended Berlin conference didn’t respect Security Council resolutions, especially the arms embargo in Libya.

He also said that the UN had depicted aircraft arriving in Misrata and Benghazi with soldiers and weapons on board, which is a direct breach of the ceasefire and violation of the arms embargo in Libya.

Guterres also said that there are positive news coming from Geneva as the UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame is playing a negotiator for the 5+5 military commission of the two sides of the Libyan conflict in order to turn the truce to a permanent ceasefire.
