Austria proposes new plan to monitor implementation of arms embargo in Libya

The Austrian Foreign Minister has proposed that the European Coast Guard helps implement the arms embargo in Libya, saying his country is willing to be part of this action.

The Foreign Minister added that arms are flowing into Libya via land and air channels, rejecting monitoring the arms embargo across the Mediterranean.

He added to German newspaper Welt that Austria rejects taking up the task of monitoring the arms embargo in Libya across the Mediterranean and supports the EU foreign commission’s proposal to expand the air surveillance over Libya.

The Austrian Foreign Minister indicated that Libyans should agree to the proposal of allowing the European Coast Guard to help monitor the arms embargo in the country.
