US welcomes second round of Libya 5+5 military commission talks

The United States, through its embassy in Libya, praised what it considered to be serious efforts of the joint military committee between the delegations of the Libyan National Army and the Government of National Accord that are holding talks in Geneva in what became known as the 5 + 5 committee.

The US embassy said in a post on its official page on Twitter: “We commend the earnest efforts made by the delegations of the Government of National Accord and the Libyan Arab Armed Forces during the second round of the JMC talks, to end the violence around Tripoli, restore security to civilian areas, and protect vital infrastructure”.

“These dialogues confirm that a brighter future can be achieved when Libyans meet peacefully to negotiate issues that divide them,” the embassy added in a tweet on Monday.

It is noteworthy that the United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced Monday the end of the second round of the joint military committee 5 + 5 talks in Geneva by preparing a draft agreement for a permanent ceasefire.

This progress of the military talks comes at a time the political talks are being held by rejections as the House of Representatives joined the High Council of State in suspending their participation at Geneva political talks that are set for February 26.
