Tunisia accused of “lack of action” toward ISIS orphans

The number of Tunisian children trapped in areas of tension and armed conflicts has reached 140, 104 of whom are in Syria and 36 in Libya, according to the estimates of the Rights and Freedoms Observatory in Tunisia.

The Head of the Observatory, Anwar Awlad Ali, pointed out that the data indicates that 46 children and 58 girls are stuck in Syria, 78 of whom were born there, and that 88 of them do not exceed 13 years of age.

Ali indicated, at a press conference, that 65% of the parents of the children, who are Tunisians, have died, 25% in prisons and 5% were deported while they are detained in Tunisian prisons.

As for the situation of Tunisian children in Libya, the Head of the Observatory said that they live in Libyan prisons with their mothers, and the Tunisian state authorities were able to return six of them, but the efforts remain incomplete.

It is noteworthy that Libya handed over to Tunisian authorities, last January, six Tunisian children, orphans of the “ISIS militants”, who were rescued during the battle of Al-Bonyan Al-Marsous forces against ISIS in Sirte in 2016.
