Tarhuna lies between shelling and a crippling siege

Tarhuna City, which is considered one of the most popular host cities for the Libyan National Army in the west of the country, has become a target for GNA forces in their war against the LNA.

An attack on the city last Saturday, which Anadolu Agency said that the Turkish Ministry of Defense was the one that prepared for it, was revealed to have been known to the LNA as spokesman Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari said that raw GNA had not achieved its goal.

The movements of GNA forces broke the UN mission’s silence, expressing its deep concern at the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the city, which was caused by the sharp rise in indiscriminate shelling of populated areas of civilians and the campaign of arbitrary arrests as well as mistreatment of civilians by GNA forces and support armed groups sent from Turkey as per the controversial MoU with the GNA.

UNSMIL condemned the practices that included targeting hospitals and medical facilities and the deliberate cutoffs of electricity, fuel, water, or food supplies, which the city of Tarhuna has subject to after the GNA forces haven’t been unable to control it.

The UN mission described such acts as mass punishment of the city’s residents as a result of its position in support of the Libyan national army.
