Foreign Ministry: Turkey is violating UN arms embargo and supporting terrorists in Libya

Libya’s Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed that there are countries, especially Turkey, that are still violating the UN arms embargo resolution by supplying terrorist armed “militias” with various types of weapons, using Libyan airports and ports in the western region of the country.

The Foreign Ministry’s remarks came in a statement regarding “Operation IRINI” of the European Union, which aims to implement the UN Security Council’s resolutions on the arms embargo in Libya and prevent the illegal influx of armed and terrorist groups.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan government called for the activation of Security Council resolutions regarding the prevention of human smuggling and exploitation, confirming that it will follow up with several states on UN resolutions issued regarding imposing sanctions on individuals and entities supporting terrorism.

The Libyan Foreign Ministry also confirmed that it will continue its efforts to condemn and stop Turkish interference in Libya on the pretext of signing an agreement with GNA, which it described as invalid.

It said that it will work to lift the embargo on the Libyan armed forces and grant them the right to obtain weapons by legitimate means to defend and protect the Libyan people.
