Libyan airliners suffer losses worth 70 million dinars due to Coronavirus

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Libyan African Holding Company for Aviation in Benghazi, Ezz El-Deen El Mishnoun, revealed in an exclusive statement to 218News Sunday that the amount of the aviation sector losses due to the repercussions of the economic crisis of Coronavirus pandemic had reached more than 70 million dinars.

Al-Mishnoun called on the government to intervene and support state-owned airlines through “Holding”, including Libyan Airlines, African Airlines, the ground services company “Al-Manawla” and the catering services company, stressing that the losses include stopping air traffic in a very important season, which is the Umrah season, let alone the loss in salaries and maintenance as well as subsequent spending.

Al-Mishnoun said that the required support from the state will ensure a strong return for companies and allow them to continue working and maintain their staff.

He indicated that the total salaries of workers at Libyan Airlines in the eastern region amount to about 4 million dinars per month, while the salaries of workers in African Airlines are about 1.5 million dinars per month.
