Bloomberg: Libya’s GNA gives Erdogan good news

Bloomberg has published an article titled “Turkey’s Libya Gambit Gives Erdogan Some Good News”, saying this may be the closest thing to Erdogan’s foreign policy success in years.

Bloomberg reported that Turkey entered the Libyan war to overturn the tide in favor of the GNA it supports, hence making a series of military successes by the GNA forces in fighting against the Libyan National Army.

The newspaper reported that GNA forces were stalled and retreating from their positions at the end of last year, but Erdogan’s decision to lend a hand to Al-Sarraj overturned the scales and tipped the balance, making the Libyan National Army, led by Khalifa Haftar, request a humanitarian truce during the month of Ramadan.

It pointed out that Turkey is still very far from declaring victory in Libya, if Erdogan aims to force Haftar to conduct negotiations with the GNA, which has become difficult after Al-Sarraj has rejected the truce upon obtaining elements of strength in the battle.

If Al-Sarraj would accept the truce and return to dialogue, it will be after he gives some painful strikes to the forces of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Bloomberg reported.

According to the newspaper’s report, Erdogan will be the winner of this battle because his country’s economy is falling apart, and through the agreement he signed with the GNA, he may soon start exploring for oil in the eastern Mediterranean.

Bloomberg stressed that even if Turkey managed to bypass the European, Israeli and Egyptian opposition, it will not see any revenue from such operations until several years later.
