Details and reactions of targeting Mitiga airbase in Tripoli

On Saturday morning, the Libyan National Army targeted the military base of Mitiga in Tripoli, which harbors Turkish drones, and the operations room supervised by Turkish officers who took a headquarters in the base for them to conduct ground and air combat operations.

The National Army directly bombed jet fuel tanks, but this targeting resulted in damage to the passenger terminal and an aircraft maintenance storage.

After this direct attack, the General Command of the Libyan National Army did not give any explanation, but it is more likely, through the photos and videos that have reached 218News from the location of the attack, it appears that the purpose is to get the base out of service by targeting jet fuel tanks.

At the same time, the LNA targeted the Mashroa Al-Muz area in the capital, Tripoli, as well as Al-Nasser Forest area, which turned into military barracks for heavy artillery attacks by the forces under the Government of National Accord.

Targeting Mitiga base prompted the UN mission to issue a statement saying that the Libyan National Army forces bombed Mitiga airport while a civilian plane was preparing to leave Tripoli, and the shelling resulted in massive damage to two civilian passenger aircraft, fuel tanks, fire trucks and a passenger terminal, adding that civilian casualties were reported.

The High Council of State condemned in a statement issued on Saturday evening this attack and called on the Presidential Council to raise the level of military coordination with what he called “international allies”, in reference to Turkey.

So an escalation on the ground was matched by an escalation of words and many reactions in a repeated scene seen by Libyans every time something happens on the ground.
