UNSMIL: LNA has caused “massive damage” to Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said that the Libyan National Army bombed Mitiga airport on Saturday while a civilian plane was preparing to leave Tripoli.

In a statement, the UNSMIL added that the shelling resulted in civilian casualties, massive damage to two civilian passenger aircraft, fuel tanks, firefighting cars and a passenger terminal, noting that “horrific attacks are occurring frequently near residential neighborhoods.”

UNSMIL also said that the heavy shelling was “just another scene of a series of indiscriminate attacks, most of which are attributed to forces loyal to the Libyan National Army, which, since the beginning of May, have killed more than 15 and wounded 50 civilians.”

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya renewed its condemnation of the attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, reiterating its call for those responsible for these crimes to be brought to justice under international law.
