US pledges $6.5 million to support Libya amid Coronavirus spread

The United States announced plans to contribute an additional $6.5 million to support response plans for the Coronavirus epidemic in Libya, bringing the total US contribution to more than $12 million.

The $12 million in funding will be used to expand the capacity of the medical authorities in Libya to detect and prevent the spread of COVID-19 inside the country, and will also help prevent the spread of the epidemic among Libyans, refugees and migrants at risk by providing humanitarian assistance, according to the embassy of the US in Libya.

The embassy pointed out that since 2011, the United States has invested more than $715 million in public health and development in Libya, including in emergency health programs to help preserve people’s health, noting that this assistance has supported the capabilities of many national and local institutions and organizations that now lead the COVID-19 response.
