Egypt, UAE welcome agreement of Libyan parties to resume negotiations

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the UAE, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, announced that their countries welcomed the Libyan parties’ acceptance of the resumption of the ceasefire negotiations.

The two ministers stressed, during a phone call, Tuesday, adherence to the political solution that supports peace, security and stability in Libya, and the importance of a political solution in Libya under the supervision of the United Nations and as per Berlin Conference conclusions.

According to the UAE News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Egypt and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Emirates, in a joint statement on Tuesday, called for a commitment to the political process under the supervision of the United Nations, and through the course of the Berlin conference, stressing that the political process is the only solution to achieving peace and preserving the unity and territorial integrity in Libya.

The joint statement stated that the UAE and Egypt stand with the Libyan people and all parties who demand calm in order to spare the blood of innocent civilians and achieve stability in Libya, especially amid the continuation of humanitarian efforts to combat COVID-19.
