El Sisi: Cairo Declaration will potentially bring Libya back to international community

The Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that the “Cairo Declaration” on a Libyan-Libyan initiative comes with the aim of ending the Libyan crisis and reaching a peaceful settlement that would ensure Libya’s return to the international community strongly.

El-Sisi said in a tweet through his official account on “Twitter” that this initiative announced in the presence of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and Speaker of the House of Representatives Aqila Saleh is expected to reach a settlement that guarantees the unity of Libya and the safety of its national institutions.

The Egyptian President expressed his pride that this initiative “came under the auspices of Egypt, whose all moves over the past years aimed to end the suffering of the Libyan people and restore stability in all areas of life.”

The initiative was launched Saturday, in a press conference for the Egyptian President, Speaker of HoR, and Commander-in-Chief of the National Army.

The initiative called for a ceasefire starting Monday, the departure of foreign fighters and mercenaries, and support for the conclusions of the Berlin conference on reaching a political solution in Libya.

The initiative’s points also included the need to adhere to the announcement of a Libyan constitution, revive the political process to resolve the crisis, emphasize the participation of the three regions in the Presidential Council, and fair distribution of wealth.
